Maison Margiela for $30? At 2nd St. DIY Moment
After my gym session, As usual I instinctively drifted to 2nd St., my go-to thrift spot. I beeline for the glass cases—where the true treasures lie—and today, I wasn’t disappointed. Sitting there, unassuming yet powerful, was a Maison Margiela black wallet. $30. A fraction of its current $545 retail price.
It wasn’t perfect—there was hole slit. But flaws, in the right hands, become art. Immediately, I thought of Bianchetto, the legendary Margiela technique. A coat of white paint, meant to wear off over time, revealing the leather beneath, adding layers of texture, character, and history. Not just a fix, but a rebirth. A deconstructed luxury experiment, straight out of Margiela’s Artisanal playbook.
Who knew a simple thrift find could be a fashion manifesto?
